Owners Margaret Smith and Hilla Ahvenainen have more than 35 years of combined experience in baking and customer service. Both got their start in Michigan, and moved to California in 1997. They opened their doors at the Twofish Baking Company at The Sea Ranch in August 2003.
Hilla Ahvenainen began as a photographic lab assistant at Colorperfect in Detroit, MI and moved on to management positions at Chroma Copy in San Francisco and Pictopia in Emeryville. As a manager she specialized in complicated production schedules and in customer service–skills that she continues to use in her work in the “front of the house” at the Twofish Baking Company.
Margaret Smith has been a professional baker since 1992. She began as a pastry cook at the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn, MI and was promoted to assistant pastry chef there. In 1997 she took up the job of pastry chef at the Buckeye Roadhouse in Mill Valley. Three years later she became the head baker at the popular Liberty Cafe in San Francisco.
